Abstract
Infants and young children who arrive in the emergency department with intestinal obstruction can usually be recognized by history alone or by sorting through the presenting signs and symptoms. Intestinal obstruction will present with 1 or more of the typical triad; colicky abdominal pain, vomiting, and/or abdominal distension. Because surgical intervention may be required emergently, delays in diagnosis must be avoided. This report covers surgically correctable intestinal obstructions in infants and children that are commonly encountered or require an astute clinician skilled to make a timely diagnosis.
