Abstract

Preparations of intestinal mucosal scrapings, homogenates, and mitochondria from normal rats and guinea pigs, and mucosal scrapings and everted intestinal segments from bile-fistula rate, failed to oxidize cholesterol-26-14C to 14CO2. It is concluded that oxidation of side-chain in the intestinal mucosal cell is not a quantitatively significant metabolic fate of cholesterol.
