SUMMARY As part of a study of the metabolic activities of intestinal bacteria, the activity of the principal glycosidases produced by the major groups of intestinal bacteria has been estimated. The results are discussed in terms of the toxicological and pharmacological effects of various ingested glycosides and of the enterohepatic circulation of compounds by four laboratory animal species commonly used in toxicological studies.
