Abstract

Kevin E. Lofton, FACHE, is CEO of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) in Englewood, Colorado. In a career that has spanned almost 40 years, Mr. Lofton has served in top positions in public, university, community, and faith-based hospitals. He joined CHI in 1998 and was appointed president and CEO in 2003. Because of the increased intensity around market consolidation, growth, and alignment, Mr. Lofton restructured the organization’s leadership one year ago and retained only the CEO title to focus on key strategic initiatives. CHI comprises 105 hospitals—many of them rural—including 30 critical-access facilities and four academic health centers and teaching hospitals. Mr. Lofton was the 1993 recipient of the Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year. In 2015, he received ACHE’s Gold Medal Award in the healthcare delivery organization category. The Gold Medal Award is the highest honor bestowed by ACHE on outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the healthcare profession.
