ABSTRACT In this interview with a senior Victorianist, James R. Kincaid, Aerol Arnold Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Southern California, reflects on his life and what led him to a career as a professor of literature and the value and appeal of literary criticism. He comments on his major books, his other writing, and on authors Charles Dickens and Lewis Carroll as well as the academic world during his distinguished long career.
