Abstract

Ian Horrocks is a Professor in the Oxford University Computing Laboratory. He is internationally recognised for his work on ontology languages and reasoning systems. He was centrally involved in the development of the OIL, DAML+OIL and OWL ontology languages, and is co-chair of the W3C Working Group that is developing OWL 2. He has published more than 150 articles in conferences, journals and books (see http://www.comlab.ox.ac.uk/people/ian.horrocks/Publications/complete.html). In 2005 he received the BCS Roger Needham award for his his pioneering work in the Semantic Web and was also awarded an EPSRC Senior Research Fellowship.
