Abstract

Raimund Erbel graduated from the University Dusseldorf in 1973, and completed his thesis on the subject of ‘Intramyocardial Pressure Measurements’. Professor Erbel has been a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Department of Cardiology at the West-German Heart Center, Essen since 1993. He is on the Editorial Boards of Interventional Cardiology, the European Heart Journal and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and is the Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials. Professor Erbel has published more than 1000 papers, and his major research interests include coronary arteriosclerosis, microtechniques in cardiology, noninvasive coronary imaging, clinical epidemiology, aortic dissection, infective endocarditis, pulmonary hypertension, myocardial bridging and percutanous aortic valve implantation.
