Abstract

In The Lancet Psychiatry, Richard Bryant and colleagues1 present the results of a randomised clinical trial into evidence-based, trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy, showing that at 6-month follow-up, exposure therapy followed immediately by a short period of aerobic exercise was more efficacious for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) than a control condition of exposure therapy followed by passive stretching. The exercise and control groups showed no difference in reducing PTSD symptoms 1 week after the 9 weeks of treatment.
