Abstract

Background and Objectives: To facilitate much more effective communication for young children with communication disorders, a technology called Augmentative and Alternative Communication(AAC) was used. Children who have limited or no verbal expression can benefit from AAC. Nevertheless, intervention using AAC is rarely used in the clinical settings. AAC mainly has been used to school age children in Korea. Method: In this study, a preschool child with communication disorder was involved in expressive language intervention using AAC. Results: The results from the present study showed that intervention using AAC have positive impact on communicative ability of child with communication disorder. The child can be expressed most target word to verbal expression or AAC after intervention. Notably, the participant spontaneously expressed more than half of target word in verbal expression. Conclusion: Result of parents survey, they answered that AAC intervention had positive impact on ability of expressive language. In addition, they wanted to continue to use AAC for expressive language intervention.
