Abstract

The composition of interstitial water from deep sea sediments is of interest because of the possibility that such water represents samples of the ancient ocean. The preliminary drilling phase of the Mohole project provided an opportunity to secure samples of muds from greater depths below the sea surface than had been possible previously.
