Abstract

ABSTRACTThis article aims to analyse I Turchi. Codex Vindobonensis 8626, one of the most interesting works by Alberto Arbasino. Specifically, the intention of this article is to emphasise the imaginary value of Arbasino’s work, which has the purpose of uncovering the stereotypes and clichés that the European West has produced over the centuries on the Turkish people and that have spread in particular through travel literature. Arbasino completes his work with a final section that includes an anthology of various texts which have the function of supporting the thesis set out in the two previous sections. Starting from a theoretical introduction on the relationship between comparative literature, imagology, travel literature and orientalism, this article focuses on an analysis of the image of the Turk in the European imagination and its projections in the work by Arbasino.
