Abstract
1. 1. Relationships between neonatal and maternal parameters to rate of rectal temperature loss at 5°C ( K) were evaluated in newborn swine by multiple regression analysis and illustrated with the “path coefficient” diagram concept. 2. 2. K was largest in small piglets, piglets with highest umbilical blood lactate levels and first-born animals. 3. 3. Secondary relationships of other factors to blood lactate, birth weight and birth position were also analyzed and illustrated.
