Abstract

A simple model of the equatorial electrojet is used to try to reproduce observed current density profiles and it is found that an increase in neutral density is required. The effects of neutral density changes of various kinds are investigated. Changes in the electron density profile due to the j × B force are found to be fairly small and, in the cases studied here, are decreases at all heights.
