Abstract

Structural characteristics of petroleum cokes are extremely important, as they determine the field and effectiveness of application. The requirements imposed on structure are particularly stringent for cokes that are used in the manufacture of electrodes and materials of construction. Electrode cokes must have a minimum coefficient of thermalexpansion and a high effective density, and they must be readily graphitized. Cokes for use in manufacturing materials of construction must have high strength, high bulk density, low porosity, etc.
