Abstract

ObjectiveThe primary objective was to assess the impact an interprofessional experience had on students’ perceptions and knowledge of each others’ scope of practice. A secondary objective was to assess students’ opinions of the experience. MethodsThe community-based interprofessional team-based learning activity was a two credit-hour elective course offered to pharmacy students in their third professional year. It was designed to include a service learning component for students. ResultsAt the time of assessment, the year-long course had been conducted for a total of three years. A total of 50 students participated in the course. The course included activities that pharmacy students participated in alone as well as activities that included both nursing and pharmacy students. Pre- and post-experience surveys assessed students’ knowledge and perceptions about each profession. ConclusionOverall, the interprofessional experiences offered in this course improved both the pharmacy and nursing students’ perceptions regarding each others’ professions.
