Abstract

An urgent need exists to improve care for patients who seek opioids for pain relief. Targeting education towards a diverse interprofessional health care team is one approach to ensure all team members communicate effectively and understand evidence-based opioid prescribing practices and policies. The purpose of this session is to (1) share outcomes from an interprofessional education (IPE) program developed for health science students and rural clinics to address stigmatization and gaps in pain and opioid use education; and (2) demonstrate how nurses can lead an interactive IPE program for all members of the health care team.
