Abstract

Sam returned to his office from a meeting and saw that he had a missed call message on his telephone. He hadn't anticipated any important calls that morning, but listened to the message first thing — after all, what he hadn't expected or what might be only incidental to him could be very important to the caller. He quickly recognized the voice in the message as that of Jeff, a friend and fellow interpreter who had recently accepted a posting to one of the company's overseas operations. Checking the time difference between their locations, Sam realized that if he returned the call immediately he could still reach Jeff in his office.
