Abstract

The contemporary concept of “emancipation“, formed in the cultural context of Roman Empire, has enhanced its traditional referential meaning frame by the range of new integral, metaphorical connotations. Traditionally the concept of “emancipation” is associated with liberating historical facts. The same attitude also prevails in Lithuanian research papers. Still, at the beginning of the 21st century, when relevant educational issues have started to highlight the themes of teaching / learning paradigm shift, formation of conceptual, smart society, the concept of “emancipated personality” is getting especially relevant. The authors of the research paper present the content analysis of 29 encyclopaedias and dictionaries with the revealed legal, social, philosophical and educational connotations of the “emancipation” concept. Legal connotations of the “emancipation” concept .highlight the economic freedom of the personality which leads to social independence from previous social models, attitudes and limitations. Philosophical aspect of the „emancipation“ concept complements to legal and social aspects by adding the element of moral argumentative communicative practice which, on its turn, stresses the educational aspect of the „emancipation“ concept, the central meaning of which is the development of personal voice, allowing the personality to evaluate personal knowledge, their validity productivity, correctness and relevance.
