Abstract
The results of the experiment of Carey et al. on the polarization transfer in the (p,p\ensuremath{'}) reaction on $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ are discussed with respect to their relevance for the absence or presence of collective effects in the nuclear spin-isospin response.
