Abstract
Kinetic data for the initial stage of the oxidation reaction of cobaltous oxide, which was performed with a constant rate of heating, were analysed in order to obtain the activation energy of diffusion in the surface layer by introducing an approximate equation. It was concluded that the activation energy of surface diffusion obtained by conventional methods is equal to the sum of the activation energy of the surface diffusion and the temperature dependence of the surface layer thickness.
