Abstract

The EDGE2D code with drifts can satisfactorily reproduce measured target asymmetries in the JET field reversal experiments. It also reveals the parallel flow pattern in the main scrape-off layer (SOL) region, which mainly consists of the ion Pfirsch–Schlüter flow and the return parallel flow caused by the poloidal E r× B drift. Individual switches for the drifts in the EDGE2D enabled one to separate effects of various drifts. It was found that ∇ B and centrifugal drifts cause the largest target asymmetries and SOL flows. However, E× B drifts were also found to produce the right trends in the asymmetries.
