Abstract

Recent investigations of the near-earth and cislunar tail suggest that the plasma regime observed by Pioneer 7 in the distant geomagnetic tail can be interpreted in terms of a quite regular extension of the plasma mantle observed in the near-earth region along the field lines connected to the polar cusp region.
