Abstract

Rotational invariance is applied to the description of atom–diatom collisions in a translational–internal coupling scheme, to obtain energy sudden (ES), centrifugal sudden (CS), and infinite order sudden (IOS) approximations to the reduced scattering S matrix S (??;L;jλ). The method of presentation emphasizes that the translational–internal coupling scheme is actually the more natural description of collision processes in which one or more directions are assumed to be conserved.
