Abstract

This is truly a handy book (pun intended!). It is a pocket book, but will probably also find its way into the doctor's bag or the glove compartment of his car. Its obvious advantages are as follows: the index—45 pages (10% of the book!); 60 tables—ranging from one showing the normal leukocyte differential count at 12 different points in the first year of life (as well as 11 other points to the age of 21) to seven tables on antibiotics and infections (usual antibiotic susceptibility, microorganisms uniformly sensitive, antibiotic combinations, etc); its organization—in addition to the usual sections on Normal Values and Specific Laboratory Examinations, there is a 275-page section on Diseases of Organ Systems. This last section is comprehensive: from listing the times of abnormalities of phase reactants in a disease to Myocardial Disease Associated with Marked Eosinophilia.
