Abstract

Strong asymmetries of Xe II transitions, obtained in a pulsed capillary discharge crossed by low to moderate peak currents, are interpreted within the Anderson-Talman approach because, simple criteria as given by the quasi-static approximation for ions and the impact one for electrons, are not adequate to explain our results. To evaluate matrix elements of the r operator, a simple criterium about the lowering of the ionization potential was made, based in the analysis of very well studied spectra of noble gas ions.
