Abstract

Reference images from one viewpoint and their depth maps are regarded as good materials for free viewpoint images. However, these materials often suffer from degraded output image quality because there is no information on background regions occluded by foreground regions. To overcome the problem, this paper proposes an interpolation method for output images using several dynamically-updated background buffers. Since these buffers are created and updated in each frame from the reference images and the depth maps, no additional information is required. Therefore, conventional materials can be used without any modifications. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated by several simulation experiments.
