Abstract

Wireless Mesh Network (WMNs) is a fast, easy and inexpensive solution for broadband wireless access which has drawn significant attention from industry and academic for the past few years. Development of the future infrastructure, collectively and loosely called 4G systems, is focusing on delivering higher speed and higher capacity at much lower cost. Interoperability and compatibility of emerging trends with existing systems is a prime factor for 4G solutions. One important characteristics of WMNs is various heterogeneous networks such as Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, sensor and cellular network can be integrated with Wireless Mesh Networks. Different types of networks use different standards for their communication. In this paper we proposed FPGA based algorithm which will convert Wi-Fi standard to IEEE 802.11s -a mesh standard. To enhance the hardware performance of WMNs, we have designed WMNs using FPGA. And also we propose the design, implementation and simulation of 802.11s based WMNs with the integration of Wi-Fi network in HDL platform(Hardware Description Language). The FPGA simulation environment, provides the complete functional behaviour of the WMNs with 802.11s MAC layer specifications.
