Abstract

Rabbits were trained to discriminate vertical vs. horizontal striations with one eye, 45 vs. 135° striations with the other. Only one out of 16 animals studied showed interocular transfer for both tasks, three others only for the vertical vs. horizontal striations. It was also found that rabbits are able to learn a task with one eye which is conflicting with a task learned with the other eye. It is argued that the low level of interocular transfer in the intact rabbit is not necessarily due to an insufficiency of the interhemispheric commissures.
