Abstract

This paper presents an effective internship program to optimize learners' skills at technical high schools in South Africa. This is based on combined training programs by compiled by Resolution Circle; presented to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) and to the graduate interns. Recommendations are made with respect to when effectively optimized, the use of these graduate interns in technical high schools as teachers' assistants, could enhance learners' performance. These recommendations to the specific case of the Gauteng province, can be rolled out nationwide to increase in the learners' performance at the higher certificate examination and therefore prepare them to continue with studies in engineering and contribute to the economic growth and sustainability of the country.
