Abstract

The nation has seen a marked growth in the generation of solid trash in recent years. The handling of solid waste is a crucial and difficult environmental problem that affects the whole planet. Therefore, it is necessary to create an effective system that can solve this issue or at the very least scale it down to the bare minimum. Every government in the world today is either intending to develop smart cities or is attempting to turn current cities into smart cities. The infrastructure of smart cities should seriously consider the influence that solid waste collection has on society and the environment. Such activities in smart cities may be handled effectively by Internet of Things (IoT) technology. In this study, we propose a system for managing solid waste based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that allows trash bin monitoring, changeover time, and garbage collection truck routing in a smart city. In the suggested concept, trash cans with inexpensive embedded devices are dispersed across the city. The cloud gets information about where the trash cans are and how full they are right now. In order to monitor and manage the collection of solid waste as an operation, we have created a mobile application for garbage collection drivers and municipalities that is based on the cloud. With the help of mobile apps, garbage trucks can take the shortest and most direct route to the trash cans.
