Abstract
International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) was established in November 2006 by the merger of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions, the World Confederation of Labour and eight national trade union organizations. ITUC maintains a ‘Countries at Risk’ watch list of countries where democracy and human rights are considered to be in jeopardy. In April 2019 ITUC issued a statement that strongly refuted a recent claim by the International Monetary Fund that higher minimum wages lead to cuts in jobs. In March 2020 ITUC issued a statement on the COVID-19 pandemic, in which it called on governments urgently to put in place economic stimulus plans and measures to protect the health and earnings of workers and to guarantee sick leave and flexible working conditions over the course of the crisis. In April 2018 ITUC launched ‘Recruitment Adviser’, an online platform aimed at protecting migrant workers from abusive employment practices through the provision of peer-to-peer reviews and ratings of recruitment agencies.
