Abstract
There is a growing understanding amongst African nations of the need to advance their agricultural technology development and to meet the demands of their rapidly growing populations. Problems faced in achieving these objectives include limited numbers of national scientists, financial stringency, inadequate access to international science and poor prospects for dramatic ‘green revolution’ technological breakthroughs. Proposals are made for improving the influence of the small but growing body of African scientists working on the development of an appropriate scientific agenda for African agricultural research.
