Abstract

With the rapid increase in the proportion of renewable energy in the power system, the volatility of renewable energy output has greatly increased the risk of power system operation and brought about the need for power system flexibility. A reasonable market mechanism in the electricity market can stimulate flexibility resources and fully exploit the flexibility of the system, which plays an important role in the efficient and safe operation of the power system. This paper studies several countries or regions that have a high share of renewable energy and have established relatively mature power markets, and then analyzes and compares the power system flexibility needs of these regions and the market mechanisms used to increase flexibility. Finally, the enlightenment of international practice to China based on the current situation is summarized.
