Abstract

Traditional foreign direct investment FDI theories fail to provide a theoretical framework for international entrepreneurship IE and internationalisation strategies IS of multinational enterprises from emerging markets EM MNEs that strive to acquire competitive advantages through dynamic international expansion. EM MNEs share certain features of IS in common: springboard, dynamic internalisation, technological catch-up, and knowledge exploration. Furthermore, innovation for creating new products and production methods led by contemporary EM MNEs was and is the outcome of their pursuit of externally oriented and knowledge-seeking, dynamic opportunity-seeking, and agile mimic IE.
