Abstract

ABSTRACT We study patenting activities of international STEM PhDs trained at German universities to explore their integration into the German innovation system and their role in the international diffusion of technology. International PhD inventors with German inventor addresses file a disproportionate share of patents with applicants from their home countries. Our results do not indicate that they are more likely to cite, or be cited by, patents from their home country or other international patents.
