Abstract

We summarize the scope of on-going and planned international cooperative research programs in solar physics. These are to be conducted within the overall framework of the Solar-Terrestrial Energy Program (STEP) of the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics, which stresses the links, in terms of energy and mass transfer, throughout the solar-terrestrial system. We stress the benefits to be derived from such cooperative ventures, both form the point of view of “pure” science as well as the “practical” byproducts that can be derived from it.
