The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) (Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action) envisaged a strong limitation of Iranian nuclear developments especially in the field of Uranium enrichment under strict International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) control in exchange for the lift of the international economic sanctions that were imposed on Iran for its perceived effort to build nuclear weapons in violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Treaty
Among Non-Nuclear Weapon States (NNWS), considerable distrust flows from the fact that the treaty prevents them from acquiring nuclear weapons, while the Nuclear Weapon States (NWS) have moved so slowly towards disarmament, which can be assessed as a failure of the treaty in providing a plan for disarmament
