Abstract

Preface/Introduction:The phenomenal rise in urbanization and industrialization has created a greater need for infrastructure development. In a developing economy, resource utilization and management is the need of the hour. This creates a need for innovation in materials, methods and management with greater emphasis on limited economic solutions. This has opened avenues for experimenting and implementing novel approaches with economic viability. There is also a need for harmony between rapid development and ecological balance to ensure sustainable development. This conference jointly organized by the School of Civil Engineering, SASTRA University, Thanjavur and IGS, Thanjavur Chapter aims to provide a platform for academicians, researchers and the industry to explore the possibilities of the use of nonconventional materials and their economic viability as alternative to conventional construction material, design and construction alternatives for economic and ergonomic structures, water management, sustainable development issues in environmental, geotechnical and transportation engineering and application of geomatics in hazard prediction and management.
