Abstract

To enhance understanding of social work in China as well as international collaboration with China in the social work field, this paper reviews the history of social work in China and provides a case example of a social work training programme for Chinese Civil Affairs officials in a US social work school. The study examines the in-service training experiences of Civil Affairs officials and uncovers topics for social work professionalization in China from the officials' point of view. This paper then presents recommendations for future international collaborations with China.
