Abstract
The importance of character education has been emphasized since ancient times across cultures and religions as a way to develop morals and values of the younger generations. In this article, the authors highlight several award-winning international children's trade books that reflect the core values recurring in literature and scriptures across place and time: wisdom/knowledge, courage, humanity, justice, temperance, and transcendence. Shedding light on the common and recurring aspects of character education, irrespective of time, culture, and religion, the authors reflect on how such universal dimensions could enhance students' understanding, awareness, and respect about diverse social cultures, norms, and values.
