Abstract

In this paper I characterize and evaluate an argument David Miller develops against cosmopolitan conceptions of international justice. Miller argues that cosmopolitan justice is too demanding and so it can be discharged only by «heroes» but not by regular people. On this basis, Miller alleges that principles of distributive justice can only have a domestic scope and cannot be extended to encompass the globe. I argue that the psychological considerations developed by Miller are insufficient to warrant the abandoning of cosmopolitanism and justify the adoption of liberal nationalism.
