Abstract

When Cu-Pd and Cu-Pt alloys are heated in oxygen at 850 to 1000 °C, Cu 2O is formed as an external scale and further in the alloy by virtue of inward diffusion of oxygen according to Thomas. On the basis of a theoretical analysis of concurrent diffusion processes, it is shown under which conditions this type of internal oxidation may occur.
