Abstract

Limestone from Jaisalmer has been increasingly used to make lime for use in steel smelting shops by most of the major steel plants in India. Limestone from Jaisalmer and the lime made out of it show excellent resistance to size reduction during loading, transportation and unloading and during calcination in industrial kilns followed by subsequent movement of lime respectively. The present study indicates that these properties might be due to the internal nanomorphology of CaCO3 before calcination and CaO after calcination.
