Abstract

A novel internal monopole plastic chip antenna capable of triple-band operation for 900/1800/1900 MHz bands for mobile telephones is presented. The proposed antenna occupies a small volume 9/spl times/10/spl times/28 mm/sup 3/ and is suitable to be embedded in a mobile telephone as an internal antenna. The antenna is with a feeding position located at the center of the top edge of the main ground plane. This central feeding position arrangement improves the radiation pattern of the antenna, and near-omnidirectional pattern for frequencies over the GSM, DCS and PCS bands has been obtained. The obtained impedance bandwidth also covers the required bandwidth of the GSM (880-960 MHz), DCS (1710-1880 MHz) and PCS (1850-1990 MHz) bands.
