Abstract
Abstract Internal friction and shear modulus was measured in non-irradiated and irradiated polycrystalline Al[sbnd]Ge alloys. The sample concentration was 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 at.% of Ge. The irradiation was carried out with fast neutrons at 78 K. The total neutron dose was 1.4 ×1016 n/cm2. During the internal friction measurements of the samples that had been cold-worked and non-irradiated, we observed two peaks, one at 250 K and another at 290 K, besides the Bordon Peak. The latter two peaks were not observed when the non-irradiated samples were annealed. When the samples were annealed and irradiated we observed a peak at 230 K and further on a continuous increase of the internal friction as the temperature was increasing. The recovery of shear modulus up to room temperature is similar to that of the residual electrical resistivity after low temperature neutron irradiation.
