Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) and fog computing technologies play a significant role in the development of residential automation systems. Both the emerging technologies can be used in many areas such as smart alarm systems for gas leakage and fire detection among others. The research related to security in fog-based environments is still at an early stage. Since these ecosystems are connected to the Internet, they are vulnerable to a variety of threats including Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. To secure the fog-based alarm system from internal and external DoS attacks. We propose a module for the detection and prevention of internal DoS attacks that operate in the system's fog layer. The obtained results show that the approach is capable of detecting internal and external DoS attacks as well as blocking the attacker's devices by using less than 8% of CPU and 0.03112% of RAM.
