Abstract

This chapter explores how two organizations in the United States, one private and one public, came to introduce coaching supervision into their internal coaching programs. It is our hope that our reflections and perspectives will provide important information for practitioners, while benefiting individual coaches, involved in internal coaching, organizational stakeholders, and professional coaching associations considering internal coaching supervision. Case 1 is about a private sector, Fortune 100 Company in which executives who had been exposed to professional coaching wanted to build an internal coaching program to create a coaching culture in the organization that would foster leader development and performance. Case 2 is about a public sector, the author established an internal coaching program in 2016 to develop leaders and build their skills for service in a public organization. In the individual coaching and oversight debrief meetings; leader coaches had private discussions with Coaching Strategy Team members to learn when and how to use specific coaching skills with direct reports.
