Abstract
A relation between the internal electron chemical potential, the electron density on the Wigner-Seitz cell boundary and the pressure on a metal is derived in the quantum corrected Thomas-Fermi approximation. Some examples of the significance of this relation for the theory of metals are discussed. It is tested using the internal electron chemical potential values given by Heine and Hodges (1972).
