Abstract
Abstract A new technique of internal carotid artery occlusion by percutaneous balloon catheter is presented. This technique facilitates prompt reconstitution of blood flow if occlusion is not tolerated. The balloon can be directed into the internal carotid artery by the Seldinger technique and inflated. When thrombosis has occurred distal to the point of occlusion, the balloon is deflated and removed. Two cases are reported.
