Abstract

Starting from the Redfield equation for the total system, consisting of all nuclear spins in a multicomponent liquid sample, the equations for a representative molecular spin system are deduced in the high temperature limit. The relaxation be haviour of all nuclear spin subsystems is assumed to be statistically uncorrelated. As an example, the relaxation processes due to dipole-dipole interactions between identical two-spin systems are described in terms of line widths and formal transition probabilities between the energy levels of a single molecule.
